in northern California, let alone anywhere else in the world... a 1963 nova with a factory 230 inline 6 cylinder convertible car is a very rare bird indeed. less than 200 1963 novas came off an assembly line with this motor. most came with the 194 inline 6 cylinder. if it is a true 230 with emblems a 63 nova convertible in decent driver condition is worth upwards of $20,000. if fully restored the sky is the limit and it comes down to how much somebody is willing to pay for this rare classic. Now if it was a true super sport this is even more rare and can fetch up to $40,000 in original condition to the right buyer! Less than 50 of the 230 6 cylinders got a ss package to boot in 1963!
A person can get an exploded diagram of the steering column shifter for this car in its maintenance manual. It can also be found in the repair manual.
my steering wheel is locked my tires are straight and everything and it refuses to unlock what do i do?
It is located on top of the steering column. Right above the shifter. There is also a lever underneath th steering column cover. Remove the cover and push the lever down, it releases the shifter.
The shifter linkage bushings inside the steering column need to be replaced. They are available at your local Ford dealer.
there is a button on the gearshift or on 1 of the shifter rods on steering column
Assuming that it is anautomatic And it's just the shifter that you want, at the bottom of the shifter by the steering column there is a pin. Take a punch and drive the pin out.
how to replace shifter tube
Under the dash on the steering column or bolted to the side of the floor shifter
underneath the steering column. it will have leads running from it to the firewall as well as to the shifter
There is a broken wire below your shifter in the console. This controls a solenoid that releases the key. The shifter in the center consle has a part that controls a current to solenoid in your steering column. A quick fix is a nail or piece of wire to release the key. This is in the steering column. There is a pop out that must pushed in to release the key. A longer term fix to replace the part in the shifter.
If you can run the shifter down through the positions it may have broken loose at the transmission . If the shifter doesn't move at all it may be a problem in the steering column < unless it is a floor shifter >. If it is a floor shift model I'd start by checking the shifter release button to see if it is broken.
Try wiggling the steering wheel as you try to take it out of park. Sometimes the steering wheel lock jams up. Keep trying.
