First off, WHY DO YOU HAVE A TWO AND A HALF DOLAR GOLD PIECE??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!
It's right in the name "Half-dollar" half of a dollar is 50 cents.
The 1776-1976 bicentennial half dollar is an extremely common date, still worth 50 cents.
The 1962 Franklin half dollar is one of the highest mintage of the series, most are valued for the silver at about $11.00.
It's worth 50 cents.
The US has never made a gold half dollar.
First off, WHY DO YOU HAVE A TWO AND A HALF DOLAR GOLD PIECE??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!
Half a dollar
The U.S. half dollar has never been made of gold. What you probably have is a gold-plated 1979 half-dollar. It's not really worth much above face value.
The only gold Bicentennial of Congress coin minted is a Five dollar coin not a half dollar, it is valued at about $300.00.
The U.S. Mint has never struck a gold half dollar. The coin has likely been plated for use as jewelry or sold as a so-called collectible. The piece has no numismatic collectible value. It's considered an altered coin and is only worth face value.
The US ten dollar gold piece (the Eagle) has just under a half ounce of gold in it. Check the current price of gold (today it is around $1,400 per ounce) to get the first answer. The second issue is rarity and condition of the coin. Check a coin pricing website once you have gotten a condition grade on your coin.
Sorry the US never struck any half dollar gold coins of any date
If it were in its original condition it would be worth at least a couple of dollars. But the gold plating makes it an altered piece with no value other than that of the underlying copper-nickel coin, 50 cents.
Gold plating adds no value when it comes to coins and indeed is a form of damage. A gold plated coin is worth the same as a damaged example of that coin. For example, a gold plated 1964 half dollar is worth the $7 in melt that a normal damaged 1964 half dollar is worth. A gold plated 1971 half dollar is worth 50 cents just like a damaged 1971 half dollar is worth.
This piece has no numismatic collectible value. It's only worth is what someone is willing to pay.
The coin has .12094oz of pure gold, the coin is worth $165.40 just for the gold.
