10 square, 11 will ensure you have enough.
100 square feet is called a 'square'. Given that, you roof is 36 'squares'. Shingle coverage for 20, 25, and 30 year shingles is 3 bundles per square. 40 and 50 year shingles are 4 bundles per square. Say the shingle you select has a coverage of 3 bundles per sqaure: the number of bundles you need would be 3 * 36, plus the amount for caps (which cover the 'peaks' and 'hips' in your roof. To estimate the amount of bundles you need for peaks, assume one bundle for every 25 feet of 'hip' or 'peak' you need to cover.
The only difference in the installation between the 30 year and the 50 year shingles is that the 50's are heavier and a little more work to hump up onto the roof and to cut. If your contractor is trying to charge you more then 10% over the price difference in the shingles, find a new contractor. They install EXACTLY the same way.
When talking about the area of a roof, remember that it is not the same as the square footage of the structure. For example a 20 x 30' building with a 12" overhang and a 4/12 pitch will have 736 sq ft of roof vs only 600 sq ft of slab. One square of shingles covers 100 square feet. 15 year shingles come 3 bundles to a square. 25 year come 4 bundles to a square.
30 by 40 = 1200 sq.ft. divide by 10 = 12 square 3tab and arch shingles are 3 bundle per square 12 sq. x 3 bundles = 36 bundles 3tab = 26 shingle per bundle arch = 22 shingle per bundle 36 bundle x 26 = 936 3tab shingles 36 bundle x 22 = 792 arch shingles =)
This is a hard to answer question. Asphalt shingle roofs come in many grades measured in life expectancy, like 10-year, 20-year, 30-year, and 45-year.
That depends. If this is a shingle or "steep slope" roof system, one layer of felt lapped 4" would be sufficient. A typical roll of #30 felt covers 200 sf.
Composition roof lifeAsphalt shingles are rated at 20, 25, 30, or 35 years. The average roof life is 5 to 10 years less, depending on climate conditions in your area. The life of any asphalt shingle roof is effected if Algae and Mildew is allowed to grow on it. The plant wraps it''s roots around the granules on your asphalt shingle roof, and as it grows, it can actually force the granules to come loose. Proper non pressure roof cleaning will extend the life of any shingle roof with black streaks or mildew growing on it "
Is this to calculate the value of the roof for a warranty replacement? Generally a roof warranty is only for the materials and is prorated based on the warranty period of the roof and the time elapsed. For a 20 year roof the depreciation would be 6/20 or 30% of the original material price of the shingles. For a 40 year roof it would be 6/40 or 15% of the replacement cost of the shingles. Read the warranty that came with your shingles to get the details of how it would be applied in your case. Local laws may also change how the warranty is applied.
Around 25 to 30 per bundle. Which equals 75 to 90 per square.
The only reason to do this is it's cheaper. Most building codes allow a maximum of two layers. However, many people believe that you are borrowing trouble down the line. Earlier roof damage, mold and other problems may become worse if left untreated. A shingle roof lasts 25 - 30 years, so it is worth doing right.

Yes. They're thicker, which adds weight to the roof--and the heavier a roof is, the better because heavier roofs cut down on wind noise. They also have better warranties; a very good warranty on a three-tab shingle is 25 years, but the cheapest architectural shingle on the market has a 30-year warranty. With the added windload resistance and not all that much higher price, I think they're well worth it.

The type of roof repair needed depends on the type of roof you currently have, i.e., tile, shingle, flat, etc. If there is no leaking from the roof, chances are it does not need to be repaired.

it depends on the shingles, regelar 3 tab shingles use 15 lb felt, archatectual requires 30 lb felt and sheet metal requires 30 lb felt. but always check on the shingle package and your local building codes for specs
