expensive. i paid about 115 for the camshaft position sensor including labor. maybe not so bad, but what a pain to figure out.
The camshaft position sensor is located near the thermostat housing. You should replace the crankshaft position sensor as well. This one is much harder to locate....it is on the backside of the engine that is between the firewall and the engine block. Both use the same sensor.
Depends on the year and model of the engine. I was just looking that up in a book today while learning how to change a camshaft sensor in a 2001 Chevy Metro. If this is for a camshaft sensor, then it will be 89 inches/lb. This was quoted for models 1996 and up
An arm and a leg.
It just cost me $220.00
if you do it yourself, you only pay for sensor!! to change sensor on a v6, remove power steering pump and set aside do not remove hoses, sensor is under pump!! remove hold down bolt then wiggle it out!!
Yes, in fact it does. It is a hall-effect sensor which consists of a reluctor wheel and a pick-up coil inside the distributor. The ECM uses this sensor to decide when and how much to open the injector and also to adjusting timing/dwell electronically. -MechanicMatt
The cost of a camshaft will vary depending on the vehicle. The average cost for a camshaft is between $150 and $200.
That is an oxygen sensor, it tells the computer how rich or lean the engine is running on bank 1. The computer uses this info to control how much fuel the engine gets.
It is located directly behind the power steering pump, which means you will need to take the p.s pump off, there are 3 bolts mounting the p.s pump on, after taking those off you will see the camshaft sensor directly behind it, there is only 1 pigtail connector leading behind the p.s pump, now before you buy the new camshaft sensor make sure you check which model of the sensor you have because there is a bwd model with 2 prongs as there are 3 prong sensors made by delphi and acdelco. after you replace it, your car should no longer hard start or burn too much fuel :)
With proper maintenance, the camshaft should last the life of the engine.
