The wkm 2' gate valve holds 2-3 lbs of grease. Take your lub pump and count how many strokes it takes to fill a container on a scale to reach 1 pound. As the gravity of different greases are different, this number will depend on the grease being used. Now that you know the amount of strokes for one pound of grease pumped, multiply that by the amount needed and just count the strokes. Each valve make and size takes different amounts. Contact tne valve company for verious sizes and makes. they should know. Remember most lubricating equipment goes up to 7,500 lbs. High pressure valves are safer to lub as they are built to take the pressure. The most dangerous valves to lubricate are the lower pressure ones. I suggest you higher an expert in valve repair and maint. If you crack a valve, how much pressure and product will be released uncontrolled? How do you choose handwheel diameter in gate valves?

Based o the torque required for easy opening/closing by human efforts.

What are Disadvantage of diode valve?

the disadvantages are that over a period of time gate valves seize and become in operable. also the handles of gate valves corrode quickly and gate valves don't entirely close properly making it difficult to solder. Gate valves are used for positive shut off and Gate valves are not designed for throttling like a globe pattern type . Gate valve fail because the installer has no idea what these types of valves are intended to do such as main steam shut off's or water mains..If properly used and installed correctly these valves last over 100 years under extream conditions

What are the different designs of a gate valve?

There are numerous types of valves. Each has a specific function and usage and differs from the others. From seismic , to pressure they can be specialized or simple in function. A valves purpose is to allow, stop, or reduce flow of a substance thru a pipe. Most common valves on homes would be gate and ball valves. In order to learn which valves are best for your application, consult a professional. types below, that i can think of off the top of my head, there are more i am sure. -ball gate mixing pressure reducing butterfly cocks angle temperature seismic ansul backflow check

What type of valve is used to shut off a water line?

Gate valves used to be, now they are being superseded by ball valves.

Why shouldn't a gate valve be used for regulating?

No. Gate valves are designed to be either completely open or completely closed. Regulating flow is best done with a globe or plug valve, or certain kinds of ball valves. A gate valve left partially open will eventually wear down so that it can never be completely closed.

What are gate valves used for?

Gate valves are used for high pressure services. Gate valves may have a union, bolted or screw-in bonnet. Another type of bonnet is a pressure seal bonnet.

What is the use and features of the Expanding gate valves?

Expanding gate valves are used in various industrial areas like isolation valves in power plants, ESD valves in production, block valves in process systems, high temperature valves in refineries, and pipeline valves in critical areas. These expanding gate valves manufactured by various manufacturers are available in all the sizes, pressure ranges, and trims used in piping systems requiring the positive shut off of liquid or gas. The expanding gate valves are full bore through conduit valves with rising stem and parallel expanding gate and segment for tight mechanical seal and positive shutoff, both upstream and downstream, and under both low and high differential pressure. An expanding gate valves should have the following features: Parallel expanding gate design creates positive mechanical seal across both seats, both upstream and downstream, with or without line pressure. Non-rising stem permits valve installation in pressure drop.

How do calculate the gate thickness for a parallel gate valves?

The ideal thickness will have no obstruction in flow, meaning that no friction will be lost.

How does gate valves get worn out?

Because someone did NOT follow instructions and used the gate to throttle instead of using a globe pattern type of valve

What type of valve disc for gate valve?

They are usually ceramic disc's in gate valves , best thing is to buy the whole tap hat for it.

Can we used gate valve for steam supply manifold?

it depends on where you are installing it on the manifold, and what you will be using it for. Gate valves really only work well as either full open, or full closed valves. They are thought of as shut-off valves so if you wished to put one at the inlet of your manifold, that would work well. If you are looking to regulate the steam to different branches of a manifold, then you would be better off using globe valves for those locations. Globe valves are designed to throttle or regulate flow. If you try and use gate valves to throttle, you will not be happy with the results, and they will wear out and not fully close, when you need them to close.Hope that helps.Ron Powell BSME
