In 2007, the average salary for a State Governor was $124,400, and the highest paid Governors were from the States of California, at $206,500, NY at $179,000, Michigan at $177,000, and NJ and Virginia both at $175,000.

Most states have placed freezes on the salaries of Governors, over the past 2-3 years or many state Governors have refused to accept increases in their salaries, over the past 2-3 years. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, has never accepted his salary, since he was elected in 2003.
