It depends on the years of education, certification, Ph.D., Psy.D., years of experience and ask for their curriculum vitae (a/k/a C.V.). Do they have a website? Check with the AMA for any concerns or complaints filed? What was their internship/residency focused on? How did they choose child psych and how long has it been their speciality? How long have they practiced in the field of child psychology? Here is more input from others: * It varies widely, depending on experience and type of practice. The APA (American Psychological Assoc.) does an annual survey, which is on their website. Just be aware that with managed care, earnings in this field are more likely to go down than up. * A starting child psychologist can make from $30,000 to $45,000. Between 5 & 10 years of experience they can make from $55,000 to $80,000. After 10 years of experience they can make from $80,000 to $100,000.

As much as they can. It depends on one's credentials, customary service rates in the area, insurance reimbursement rates, competence and skill, referral base, etc. etc. The range is usually between $70 and $200 hourly before overhead and taxes. Overhead can run as high as 35%. So one might expect earnings around 100K for a busy full-time practice (most therapists I know don't fill all their hours, though). A psychiatrist can earn upwards of 200K, while an LPC might clear 70K.

Salary, earning potential, and marketability are not only determined by the type of field you are in and the degree you possess. It depends on your position within that field, the institution you work for, your experience, expertise, personal abilities, critical thinking skills, problem solving abilities, dedication and commitment toward ones work, and more. Thus, salary is not so much dependent on the type of degree as much as it is dependent on the person who holds the degree. Still, if you have a specific occupational title, you can then retrieve the estimated mean annual wage particular to that occupation through the U.S. Department of Labor: Bureau of Labor Statistics.
