Hey Ed==It is different in different parts of the country. I would call SEVERAL local shops and dealerships and see what they say. Goodluck Joe
$1700. in NYC
I once got an estimate for $1200 in Dallas Tx
Its probably cheaper to get it replaced at a junk yard
The gasket is very inexpensive at around 2 dollars. I believe it is about a one hour job by book hours. The price should be around 75-100 dollars.
you should only change the gasket if you have to take the valve cover off....... you should only change the gasket if you have to take the valve cover off.......
Unless the housing is damaged, there is no reason to replace it. Just replace the gasket.
How much should it cost to replace a blown head gasket for a 197 BMW 528I
The 2003 Chevy Malibu does not have a timing belt. It has a chain which should last the life of the engine.
Replace the head gasket for sure. That is assuming you did not continue to drive the vehicle until you destroyed the engine internally.
you mean a valve cover gasket i think
YES! Replace the head gasket or destroy the engine if you continue to drive it.
should you drain oil in the car if the head gasket is blow
They should, but what the actual law on this is will vary in accordance with where you are.
on my 2000 Malibu with the 3100 or 3.1 it cost me a little over $700 bucks..that's with anti freeze flush and fill, new thermostadt, the good gasket set (fel pro)not the cheap one and oil and filter..
You cannot and should not buy a used head gasket. If you have a blown head gasket you replace it with a new gasket. The gasket will cost very little. The labor to replace the gasket is where the cost is. Expect to pay from $500 to $1,000. This is a major repair that takes time.
