The gasket is very inexpensive at around 2 dollars. I believe it is about a one hour job by book hours. The price should be around 75-100 dollars.
Remove the air filter housing cover. The air filter will lift out. Drop the new air filter into the housing and replace the cover.
The new body style Malibu w/2.2L 4cyl has a non-servicable, permanent filter in the fuel tank
Unclip the 5 metal clips on the top of the filter housing. Pull the filter housing straight up and take it out of the vehicle. The filter and housing must all be replaced.

depending on your vehicle, the housing is whear your oil filter screws into. remove oil filter and thi should reveal 3 or 4 bolts in the side of housing remove bolts should come off no problems replace seal behind housing reverse process
check that the O ring was replaced when oil filter was changed. id O ring is good and filter is tight, and housing still leaking, replace filter housing

Remove the 4 screws from the rock guard on the front of the engine. Using a universal oil filter wrench, turn the filter housing counter-clockwise until loose then remove by hand. Replace the o-ring in the housing cap and replace the filter inside the housing. I had luck placing he filter into the base on the engine first and then placing the housing cap onto it. Tighten and replace rock shield... Good Luck!!
Open hood. Remove plastic housing securing air filter. Install new filter. Replace what you have removed. Your finished!
When you open the hood, the air intake unit is to the right of the battery. Use a rachet with an extension to loosen the bolts that hold the filter housing together. The bolts will not fully come out, so loosen them enough that you can be able to remove the filter housing. Lift the housing straight up, and you will see the filter underneath. Replace it with a new one, making sure the new filter is flush on top of the housing, so it can properly close. close the housing, tighten the bolts and you're done.
REMOVE THE DRAIN PLUG AND PULL THE FILTER OUT OF THE HOUSING.
Remove the air cleaner housing cover. The air filter will lift out. Set the new air filter in the housing and replace the cover to its original position.
