The coolant temperature sending unit on a 97 Mercury Sable is in the engine compartment. It is located on the intake manifold.
Usually located in the air intake tract between the air box and throttle body, or even on the upper intake manifold.
Trouble code P1518 means: Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open (Bank 1)
well i have a 98 sable with the duratec 24v v6 and everyone says remove the intake manifold-well folks dont do that cuz i just removed the 4 bolts holding in my disributer and that gave me acces to the back plugs! saved me time and money rather then removing intake manifold! took me bout an hour and i was done!
the PCV valve will be lacated in the valve cover next to the firewall. It will be in the top of the valve cover and have a rubber vacume hose leading under the upper manifold to a port on the intake manifold
on the back of the engine u have to remove the intake to get to it
The air intake filter assembly would be connected to the throttle body.
$1100 to $1400
The intake air temp sensor is located on the cover over the air filter.
According to my Chilton's Auto Repair Manual : For a 1989 Mercury Sable : ( 16.0 U.S. gallons , or the optional extended range tank which is 18.6 )
If it is the intake manifold, there will be vacuum leaks, backfire, and poor performance. If it is the exhaust manifold, you will have loud exhaust noise which may warrant a citation - also, emissions control laws will be violated. Take the manifold ro a shop where it can be re-surfaced or try to find a product at your local auto parts store that will help seal the manifold. - Good luck.
Could be sucking air into intake.
