10.0 us qt (9.5 liter) for non-turbo; 10.4 us qt (9.8 liter) for turbo as per "Capacities" in the "OWNER'S MANUAL".....
The recommended automatic transmission fluid for a 2000 Subaru Outback Legacy is Subaru ATF HP. This is a proprietary fluid which is sold by local dealerships.
dexron III is recommended for a 2003 Outback automatic
EVERY 50,000 KMS.
Pull the dipstick out, put a funnel into the tube where the dipstick was, open transmission fluid container, pour.
Inside Transmission. Drain fluid & remove Oil Pan for access.....
Transmission fluid on any automatic transmission is filled through the dipstick tube. You will be more successful if you buy or borrow a funnel with a hose on it made for this purpose.
There is a diPstick at the front on the transmission differential
A 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback requires: For automatictransmission: DEXRON III For manual transmission: GL5 75W90 gear oil
It depends on if you have a manual or an automatic transmission. aut is 3and a half quarts of subaru automatic transmission fluid, a manual is about a gallon of 80W-90 gear lube
In 2003 I believe that they still recommended Dexron III for automatic transmissions. Check your owner's manual. Newer Subarus (2005 and up) use a special fluid that is generally only available from Subaru.
The manual specifies only Subaru fluid. If this is not available Dexron III can be used until Subaru fluid is available. Noise and hard shifting will be the result.
