The postage rate for delivery across the United States in 1900 was two cents. The rate began in 1885 and lasted until 1917 when it was raised to three cents. Airmail began in May 1918 and was 24 cents, but was reduced to six cents by the end of the year.

The US issued a commemorative series honoring Columbus (Columbian Exposition Issue) of 1893. The stamps range from 1 cent to 5 dollars. To mail a letter in 1893 it took a 2 cent postage stamp. Some of the higher denominations in this issue a quite valuable new or used. The 4 cent stamp (Scott Catalog #233a) is an error stamp that has a catalog value of $19,000 new and $16,500 used.

The postage rate in the US was 2 cents for one ounce of first class mail from July 1 1919 to July 6, 1932. It was also 2 cents from July 1, 1885 to November 3, 1917. During World War 1, and additional penny was charged to help finance the war effort.

The cost of an ounce of First Class US postage in 1910 was 2 cents. That rate went into effect in 1893 . It stayed at that price until it took a temporary jump to 3 cents during World War 1.

The cost was 2 cents in 1909. That covered the first ounce of weight. With the exception of a 1 cent tax during World War 1, it remained at 2 cents until 1932.
