Water Needed To GrowA seed will absorb as much water as it can depending on the size and type. For a seed to become a sprout, it will first intake enough water for its shell to come off.

When starting seeds indoors, you want to be sure that you don't overwater, which can cause the seeds to rot and the sprouts when they appear to die. You can start with a good potting soil, which will have moisture in it already, unless it has been opened and not closed back tightly. Plant the seeds according to the depth specified on the package and use a mister to give the soil extra water. Use a mister daily to moisten the top of the soil. The water will work its way down into the soil. It doesn't take a whole lot of water for seeds to sprout, but you don't want to allow the soil to become dry, either.
