Paladin of the Lost Hour was created in 1986.
Many insects have brains which navigate according to a fixed point of light. When flying in a straight line, the bright source of light remains stationary. If the source of light moves, the insect interprets it as having changed direction and makes a course correction to remain flying straight. If an insect flies past a candle or light bulb, it sees the light suddenly move behind it. The insect makes a sharp turn to bring the light back to its original position. The result is that the insect begins circling the source of light. To the insect however, it thinks it is flying in a straight line. Humans have a similar mechanism in their inner ear which controls the sense of balance. A severe inner ear infection can disrupt the system and cause people to fall out of bed because they have lost their sense of balance.
