It depends on:
1) Your country of residence (It is actually cheaper to start in Europe.)
2) How many stopovers you make (The more take off and landings, the higher the taxes etc.)
3) The route you take (If you avoid the Southern Hemisphere, you can get some really good deals on the Star Alliance website. I got an intinerary for 3200$.)
I would budget about 4000$, but extra trips will cost you more. 4000$ will enable you to get to Australia and New Zealand and other southern hemisphere destinations.
Hi, i have done this, As said above it depends on take off and landing etc, also allow for Visa costs where you are landing. You can by One World tickets, and multi city destination tickets...... Good Luck
By the way - I strongly advise taking in at least 1 Pacific Island if you can afford it - and I dont just mean Hawaii - there are others such as Fiji which my daughter went to and many other less explored islands - as was said above - good luck and happy travels
