Myanmar (Burma) extends farther down the peninsula, next to Thailand, than

you'd expect when you first glance at the map. It keeps going, down to latitude

9.5° North ... almost 300 miles south of the latitude of Bangkok.

At that point ... the southernmost point in Myanmar ... it's only about 660 miles

north of the equator.
