For normal consumer use, you should change your oil annually, check it every time you mow and add it when necessary.

Rule of thumb......always check the oil every time you use it......Briggs on engines with no oil filter, the oil change is every 25 hours.......
where do you put the oil at for a john deere 317 riding lawn mower and what brand of oil
give up and hire a lawn service...
You will foul your spark plugs and probably ruin your lawn mower. Because that oil is not designed to mix with your fuel.
If you put it in for engine oil you will have a major problem. If you put it in with the fuel then you will notice the mower smoking a lot and possibly fouling the spark plug.
If all oil the mower will not start. If only a little oil, the mower may start but run rough and smoke very much.

No, seals are cheap, engines expensive.......
Engine wear and damage can occur.
Automotive oil is identical to lawn mower oil. They are both internal combustion engines. I would however recommend you use 100% Synthetic oil in that air cooled lawnmower engine.
There is no oil drain on a 650 series lawn mower. You have to turn the mower over and drain the oil from the spout you put it in the engine. Make sure the gas tank is empty
Go to the drain plug and let some out
no, drain some out until you get the proper level
