The average lifespan of a carpet is 8 to 12 years, but many last a lot longer with proper care. The key to extending the life of the carpet is to keep it clean. Dirt acts like sandpaper on the carpet fibers when you walk on it. It causes nicks and abrasions in the fiber, which in turn get dirt inside them, causing dirty, worn looking traffic areas. Clean them at least once a year, twice if you have children or animals, and three to four times a year if you are a commercial enterprise.
Depending on the wear, tear, your carpet cleaning methods, and it's warranty, carpet should last aproximately 5 to 7 years.
