Clove essential oil is a great solution for dry socket. It can help relieve the pain and discomfort. Clove oil is used in toothpastes and by dentists and is 100% natural.

You can apply it by putting clove oil on a q-tip or cotton ball. Then apply the cotton to the dry socket, putting it in place for several moments. Don't apply the clove oil directly to the dry socket it could burn with over exposure. Cotton or q-tip will help you to not overdue it.

Will packing a dry socket at home delay healing?

Depends on what you're packing it with. If you suspect a dry socket you need to go back to your dentist and have them pack the socket with medicaided dressings. However I have heard of temporary relief coming form oil of clove, or eugenol, which can be purchased at most drug stores otc. I currently have a dry socket which I got on Sunday and of course monday was Christmas eve and today Christmas! My luck. Yesterday someone mentioned eugenol and thank the lord Im not in huge pain anymore! I just wet a piece of gauze with the oil of clove and dunked it in the hole and have relief for at least 4 hours. My appoitment is tomorrow with my surgeoon.

Should you put Anbesol in your mouth if you have a dry socket?

I would not recomend putting anything in your mouth that will increase the poteintial for sensitivity or pain to your dry socket. The dentist that you see should have dry socket paste to apply for you. Try your best to keep your mouth free of cold air, and do not drink from a straw, smoke any cigarettes ,spit forcefully,or swish your mouth when brushing your teeth.

Can you eat after dry socket treatment?

Very soft foods. Jello, mashed potatoes, pudding, soup. Restrict your diet to soft, tolerable foods as your mouth will be very sensitive to hot/cold. Rinse with warm, salt water to keep the socket clean as well.

Can a patch over a dry socket come out from brushing or eating?

After you have a tooth removed, a scab like material forms over the wound, or empty socket where the tooth was. If you manage to bump, or tear this off, by eating or brushing, you will end up with what the dentist would refer to as a "dry" socket. I know, because I accidentally bore down on a piece of french bread, and the bread got lodged in the socket. The pain is unbearable. So be careful for about 2 weeks. And, the older you are, the longer it takes for the injury to heal. The clove oil patches that the dentists sometimes place over a dry socket can be dislodged from eating or brushing. They are packed in, but not stitched or anything like that. You still have to be careful for a few days after it is placed.
