My kid was 3 when he was helping dad push the mower around the yard, he was 6 before he could do it himself, so I let him. By eight he was mowing 3 other neighbors lawns for $20 a pop. Now he is 10yrs old and Building his own savings account and buying his own toys, and I don't mean plastic toys. I'm talking 4 wheelers and bikes. So you must ask yourself, am I a cruel dad? or a wise man? to encourage and educate my son in his interests. Now he knows the value of money and he spends it wisely. By the way I was also around that age when my parents had me start mowing and shoveling snow. Then I also turned it into a business at around 12 yrs old and made money year round. I now own my own business and I am very successful. So I would like to say , Thanks Mom for encouraging me early in life. Steve.
I mow lawns all summer long and ride my mower all over my neighbor hood, and im 15! and in Michigan, so i dont think you should have to worry, the worst thing that could happen, a cop will stop you and tell you to go home! end of story!
Riding lawn mowers make yard work much easier. Often there is a temptation to let children ride them. The question is: at what age should a child be allowed to ride. Actually a child shouldn't ever ride a lawn mower. They may turn over and hurt themselves. Just like push mowers, it is best to wait until teenagehood. For one thing, they will be taller. For another, they are bigger and more capable of steering correctly. Watch over teens when they mow to make sure they take the dangers seriously. Make sure to point out any dangerous obstacles.
usually 12-13 & up.

Legally, I believe you must be 16 or older. If you keep it under the table, you can start working whenever your uncle, brother, dad, etc. decide they want your help.
