Answer I also have a 12ga. peerless model, and yes I do shoot it to this day.I use it dove hunting, when I can't hit anything with my other gun I grab the old double and I swear I can't miss with it. They are a great shooting gun.But like the other person said it needs to be a later model. If you can find an oldtimer gun smith they will tell right away if to shoot it or admire it. Use only short brass and 6-1/2 to 8 shot. Mine used to rattle if you held it in one hand and kinda twisted it back and forth.I was lucky enough to find an old gunsmith close to my home and he fixed it to near perfection and told me to go and have a good time shooting a fine gun and that's what i will do as long as i can.I HAVE A PEERLESS MODEL 12 GA. HAMMERLESS THAT BELONGED TO MY GRANDFATHER ,MY UNCLE WAS ALLOWED TO HUNT WITH IT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 1925, MY UNK., SAID IT WAS AT LEAST 20 YEARS OLD THEN. THE BOOK SAYS 1888 TO 1892 AnswerIt could have been made anytime from the 1880's to about 1945. An early gun would have laminated barrels and probably large side-hammers. These should be retired and hung over the mantle unless you want to reload your own short, black powder shells. If was made later than about 1930, it will probably be a hammerless gun with fluid steel barrels and at least 2 3/4 inch chambers. If checked by an experienced gunsmith these might still be used with light loads. Between these dates it could be either. Value of these old utility doubles is usually between $150 and $250 for either a decorator or shooter. AnswerI ALSO HAVE AN OLD PEERLESS MODEL, 12 GAUGE DOUBLE BARREL. MINE IS MARKED NORWICH, CONN. USA. IT IS ALSO HAMMERLESS. AT BEST A LOOKER. MY ONLY PROBLEM IS THE BUTT STOCK ON THE RIGHT SIDE HAS A PIECE OF WOOD MISSING RIGHT NEXT TO THE BREAK. I HAVE CALLED ABOUT FINDING A REPLACEMENT BUTT STOCK WITHOUT ANY LUCK. SO I GUESS THAT SHE'LL JUST BE A LOOKER. I DID FIND ANOTHER PEERLESS MODEL ON THE internet A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. THEY WERE ASKING $250.00. I THOUGHT THAT WAS A LITTLE HIGH. UNLESS IT WAS IN GOOD/VERY GOOD CONDITION.
