First, some blind children have been trained to be independent. You do not say what age the "kid" is, but if he or she is a young teenager, they may have received specialized training at school, and they may possess the ability to know how to handle an emergency. The young person may also have a companion animal, like a seeing eye dog, to warn of danger.

But that said, if you are talking about a little kid, that is a totally different story. Most experts would say that a child who is under the age of ten, whether they can see or not, should never be left alone and unsupervised. A young blind child should especially not be left alone, since he or she undoubtedly is not yet able to take care of a crisis. If you believe a blind child is in danger, you may want to call the Child Protective Services offices in your state to report it.
