Like anything electrical they can and do fail but, for the most part, they are very reliable. Usually some other part is affecting the computers performance to make it appear as a computer failure. If in doubt have the dealer check it out. They are much too expensive to be guessing about. Hint: if your computer is bad you can save a bundle of money getting one from a salvage yard.
Some cars have more than one computer. A climate control system is sometimes controlled by a computer. I think you mean the engine management computer or ECU. The only link that may involve engine management is, that some engines increase the idle speed when the A/C is turned on, to prevent stalling on automatics. Apart from that the ECU only controls engine performance.
Unless you have a scantool, the most reliable way of resetting the "Check engine" light in most cars is to simply disconnect the battery for approximately 3 to 5 minutes.
Yes, but why? Its a big job and requires re wiring for engine computer etc The 3.8 GM engine is a more reliable and smooth running engine than the 3.1 GM And the 3.8 generally gets better fuel economy when comparing the cars equally.

the computer is what runs the car and all the engine functions, you can change the functions of the engine to get more power by buying a performance programmer and downloading the program into the cars computer. theres your answer :)
When ever the check engine light comes on, the cars computer has been given a code from the engine. Go to any auto shop with a dyignostic computer. They will hook it up to the cars computer and it will give the code to the dyignostic computer and they will tell you what the code stands for and than you will find out that is wrong with your car.

No two cars are the same. A make, model and year will get a better answer.
A check engine light comes on for a reason. The engine computer has detected something wrong somewhere in the engine management system and your car's computer needs to be scanned for fault codes to determine the source of the problem. If you have done all that then your cars check engine light needs to be reset, how this is done I am unsure. Get the engine serviced! The dealership can provide the service and cancel the alert.
They are a very reliable car diesel engine probably better than petrol
