The 'purchasing department' in any company is responsible for all the material inflows including raw materials and other things which are to be used as inputs during production. 'Sales' on the other hand is responsible for the outflow of the finished products by selling it to the target customer. In order to ensure smooth functioning of any company, inflow and outflow should be in phase.
If the sales team can forecast their expected sales /requirements in an efficient way, the purchasing department can then be prepared for all the material requirements and hence this will prevent any unnecessary delays in operations. Such high level of efficiencies in operations can only be achieved if the two departments work together.
