The udder should feel firm, with a slight give to it, and have easily expressable milk from both teats. If the foal has recently nursed, the udder may feel softer.

When can you feel milk in a horse teats?

It depends on the mare. You may feel milk in the mare's udder when she has a month left to foal, or you may feel milk in the mare's udder right after she has foaled.

Bags under my pregnant horses teats are very hard bought her not knowing she was in foal and vet cant give date?

The udder could be hard due to mastitis or due to uterine infection in association with pregnancy...however, if these and other reproductive issues have been eliminated as the problem then the mare could be successfully in foal. The vet may not be able to determine the stage of pregnancy through palpation or ultrasound because the foal is below the pelvic brim...although the enlarged udder indicates that she is farther along in pregnancy and the foal should be palpatable. If the mare's udder is enlarged, the next question is whether the "milk" color has changed from a clear gold color to white, which is generally a good indicator that she is close to foaling. Also, the muscles will relax over the top of her tail and over the back. The mare's tail will feel weak. There is obviously some guesswork involved on the part of the vet once it is determined that the mare is healthy and in foal any guess at foaling date is just that...a guess...

Foaling usualy takes sevral hours true or false?

Usually, true. It depends on the mare. Some mares will "hold" their foals until they feel comfortable/secure enough to drop. Our mares have usually always foaled in the middle of the night. I've written an article on this: This is the link: http://www.ehow.com/how_4526561_prepare-mare-foaling.html (mysassy) Exuse me :) I know that it also depends on how many foals the mare has had because a maiden mare will take longer than a mare who has had more than 2 foals.

How can you tell when your miniature horse will go into labor?

A horse in labour shows some predictable signs. They are not the same for every mare and will depend on her temperament and how experienced she is with motherhood - a mare that has foaled several times will generally be calmer than a first or second time mother. Signs that a mare is beginning labour: * Out of character behavior - nerviness, moving away from other horses. * Pacing the stall or paddock and returning to a particular spot. * Sweating or becoming lathered without excessive physical effort. * Signs of discomfort in belly area ie kicking at underside, staring at flanks. * Desire to be near people or sometimes to stay away from them. As her labour progresses she may lie down, get up, move, and do this several times. By the time she starts straining in earnest, the foal should be born within an hour. If it has not arrived, you should call the vet.

What does it feel like to a cow to get milked?

Well I would think it would feel pretty good to have all that milk "taken" out of her udder after it's been painfully swollen for the last little while. There's no pain involved in milking cows.

How deep is a horses vagina?

Will a mare foal in the field while running with 2 year old colt due this week?

Yes, she will. She will most likely find a place hidden away from the colt and deliver her foal. If she cannot find a place she may hold off on foaling as horses can stop the foaling temporarily until they feel safe. It would be best to remove the colt from the field after she has foaled as he will try to breed with her as soon as she goes into her foal heat.

How should a girl feel about a boy after going out for a month?

Should stop my friendship because i feel like its becoming a competition?

Yes. You should not have to feel like that if that is your friend. You should feel comforted by their presence and always want to be around them. You should never feel cautious or competitive.

How do you tell if a shetland pony is pregnant?

I come from Shetland and breed Shetland ponies, so I'll give you some tips on telling wheather your horse is pregnant. If your pony is tame enough then...Feel the udder. - Is it large looking, and squeeze the teat to see if a waxy substance is coming out (this will only occur very close to the birth of the foal)Hard, but gently, lay your hand on the mares tummy, below the end of the ribs, and keep your hand there for a minute. If your lucky enough, you may even feel the foal kicking (it is an amazing feeling!)Have the vet scan her to see if they are a foal.If you have purchased the pony from a dealer, it is usually quite hard to tell if the mare has been covered, especially if she hasn't been worked with often. She may try to kick or bite you when you feel the udder, but dont pressure her, and try to spend alot of time with her to build up your trust with her. If the mare has a very dipped back (this is usually in older ponies) she is likeley not to be in foal.Hope this information has been really useful (: satu231 (check out my youtube page..look up ellie231 - You will see my shetlands (: x)

Notes should be as detailed as you feel they should be. The things you should note are the things that you feel are the most important.

Can a horse that is gentle with humans be aggressive with other creatures?

Horses are often aggressive towards dogs and can be aggressive to other livestock. Generally, mares with foals will tend to be more protective and can become aggressive if they feel their foal is in danger.
