After you ovulate, your egg waits to be fertilized for apprx 24 hours. If the egg is fertilized, it takes the fertilized egg about 5-12 days to travel to the uterus and implant itself in the lining. I have read that the average time for implantation is 8 days past ovulation.

What prepares the uterus for a possible ovulation and implantation?

A complex interaction between the pituitary gland in the brain, the ovaries and the uterus work to create the perfect environment for ovulation (the release of an egg) to occur, for the sperm and egg to meet and for the fertilised egg to implant itself in the uterus.

When does the fertilized egg implant into the uterus?

It takes place during the menstrual cycle, and the process is called ovulation. (Another name for the fertilized egg is a 'zygote') Ovulation is not a fertilized egg. Ovulation is the release of an unfertilized egg. The fertilized egg implants about 6-8 days after ovulation

Can you still have a period then be pregnant?

No, you can't menstruate while pregnant. Menstruation only occurs when the egg released during ovulation isn't fertilised, if it is fertilised then the egg will implant in the uterus lining - if the uterus lining were to shed it would cause miscarriage.

What happens to the egg follicle the ovary?

A mature follicle will be released during ovulation and travel to the uterus. If is it fertilized, then it will implant in the uterine wall. If it does not then it will be passed out of the body during the menstrual cycle.

Why do you have a period when your on birth control?

The hormones don't prevent ovulation or conception. The lining of your uterus is still enriched with blood, but the hormones trick the body into not allowing the zygote to implant. That's if you did conceive that month. The zygote is in effect immediately miscarried. If it's an egg, it also does not implant. After no implantation, your body flushes the egg (or zygote) and also the lining of your uterus. You have a period.

Can you ovulate before you period?

ovulation normally occurs about 2 weeks before your period actually starts. The purpose of a period is a direct relation to the release of an egg during ovulation. The egg will be released from the falopian tubes and enter the uterus (ovulation). Once the egg sits in the uterus for several days if it is not penetrated by sperm the body will reject it by causing contractions of the uterus to release the egg. This is when your period occurs as your uterus is "washing" out the egg from the uterus. So....yes...ovulation always occurs before your period.

What happens to the uterus between each ovulation?

Between each ovulation, the lining the uterus is shed in the menstrual cycle. If the egg is fertilized, no further ovulation occurs and no menstrual shedding happens.

What is the path that the egg cell must travel during ovulation?

first the egg cell is released thru the ovaries. then it comes down the fallopian tubes and into the uterus. it then goes down to the cervix and out the vagina.
