The surgeon guides the balloon catheter to the blocked area and inflates the balloon, causing the stent to expand and press against the vessel walls. The balloon is then deflated and taken out of the vessel.

during my Stent surgery for my heart I laid on a table and the went through a small inscision in the groin region. you are twilight sedated ( you are awake but groggy) and they go up the artery with a microwire and small stent at the end. a dye is pumped, which you can watch on the tv monitor as they are doin it, that shows the heart, arteries etc. they place the stent and exit. After that you must lay still for atleaast 4 hours with a sandbag on the incision site so it does not rip and bleed. Hope this helps. It is what I remember from the two procedure's I have had done.
