The far southwest portion of Texas lies in the Semi-arid climate zone, which receives low annual precipitation that peaks in the fall. The summers are very sometimes extremely hot, daytime highs can exceed 110°F (43.3°C) on occasions but on are on average around 95°F (35°C). Winters are mild, the January highs are typically in the low 60's but tend drop below freezing at night. Most of this of this area is sparsely populated.

The southeast portion of Texas lies in the Humid Subtropical climate zone. The peak of precipitation varies from the Golf cost to the more inland area of the climate. Houston sees large amounts of rain fairly evenly throughout the year with the most during late summer and January while in San Antonio theres a noticeable peak during the spring. Summers are very hot and humid with highs in the mid 90's lows in the low 70's. Winters are mild in this zone as well with highs in the mid 60's and lows in the low 40's. This zone is also prone to strong severe thunderstorms that can cause tornadoes and floods, especially during the spring. The Texas gulf coast is also vulnerable to Hurricanes that can cause extensive damage during late summer/early fall.
