this is a little more complicated than most think, so here is a short lesson on automotive electronics.
electricity flows negative to positive. not the other way around that most people think. the ground or - is what supplies power, it returns through the + or positive red wire per say.
now obtain a wiring diagram. the circuit however complicated is simple by understanding how it functions. direct current flows out negative side of battery to chassis to supply all grounds with power. from grounds it travels through the object of resistance or load. like a light bulb or wiper motor, etc. then travels through a fuse or relay then back to battery.
start at the source of your problem. the load that is not working or where the short appears to affect the system. test the positive wire to the load with a volt meter using a good ground. if good, then reverse, and check the ground wire with meter using a good positive line like the red terminal on the battery.
whatever side - or + shows improper signs of connection trace the line or wire further back till you get a proper signal.
its simple by theory, not always that easy in practice. have patience most importantly.
There is no ground wire in automobiles, they have tires that insulate the vehicle from the ground. There are only positive and negative wires.

Nissan blown fuseNot sure which engine control wire you are referring to but it sounds like there is a short to ground somewhere along the wire. Check the harness that runs along the top of the valve cover along fuel injectors. About 3/4 of the way back towards the firewall check the underside of the harness because there is a bolt that often rubs through the harness and shorts it out. I had this problem with my 1996 Nissan truck and a few wraps of electrical tape solved the problem. A Nissan mechanic said this is a common problem. on my 85 Nissan,it came with a 30 amp fuse, ireplaced it with the right one that it calls for and it blew the fuse, so i put the 30 amp fuse back in and it works fine, that was 10 years ago, ihad my Nissan for 15 years.
can you forward me a picture of the speed sensor to a 2006 nissan altima?
The ignition wire in a Nissan 350z is black and red. The starter wire is white/red and the second starter wire is white/green.
Yes, if it shorts to ground internally.
The ignition wire on a 1997 Ford E-150 is red. It is the same color in many of Ford's automobiles.
The reverse light wire on a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder is light blue. Further information may be available in the owner's manual.
