In order to apply for ILR in the UK, an individual must make an application to the UK Border Agency. There are a number of ways individuals may qualify for ILR, if an individual has held a work-related visa, it is usually possible to make an application after 5 years residence in the UK. If the individual is married to a British citizen, an application can usually be made after 2 years residence in the UK.
With regard to the application itself, an application can be submitted either by post or in person using the Same Day service. This can be done by submitting the appropriate application form. For individuals holding a work-related visa, this would be Form set (O), for individuals holding a spouse visa, this would be Form set (M).
