I just changed one out on a 2006 SRX V8 engine this past weekend. The battery location is the challenge, it's still pretty straight-forward.

  1. I recommend you get your new battery first. The SRX's 101-series battery isn't very common, so you may have to wait for it to be ordered for you.
  2. Remove the ground (black) battery cable from the battery first, then the positive (red) cable. Due to the tight space, a small box wrench may be required. Carefully move the cable ends so they are out of your way.
  3. Locate the rubber block that is securing the front of the battery in place at the base. Remove the large nut that is holding the block in place to release the battery. Note the orientation on the block when you remove it.
  4. Normally, you would now carefully pull the old battery out. However, for the 2006 SRX you will first need to move the long plastic trim piece that is at the base of the windshield up out of your way to have enough clearance to remove the old battery.
  5. Study the plastic trim people along the base of the windshield. You should find removable panel just above the battery's location. Carefully press 'in' on the two visible tabs and the panel will just lift out.
  6. With the panel removed, two previously hidden retaining screws holding the trim piece in place should now be visible. Remove these screws, being careful to also remove the adjoining washers.
  7. Now, locate two additional retaining screws holding the long plastic trim piece in place. Instead of being hidden under a panel, these will be visible with the hood open. The first of these screws will be at the end of the trim and will require a very short screwdriver due to its location near the hood hinge. The other screw will be on the other side of the 'hidden panel' area. As before, be sure to also remove the adjoining washers.
  8. With this trim piece loosened on the passenger side of the car, it can now be *carefully* lifted up about an inch and a half to give you the necessary clearance to remove the old battery from its position in the engine compartment. This works best with two people.
  9. Before putting the new battery in place, take a moment to study where it going to sit. You will see a base plate with an interlocking ridge that holds the rear of the battery securely in place. When you install the new battery, make sure it centered on the base plate and is pushed all the way back against this interlocking ridge.
  10. With the old battery finally out of the way, repeat the above steps in reverse order to install the new battery.

Good Luck!
