Kids rooms get cluttered because we hang onto the past on their behalf. There will be good toys/books they have grown out of and need to be passed on...to friends, family or charity shop.

Discuss the throw out and give away items as things that have ' had their day' and may have been really enjoyed at one time but its time to make space for new things.
I would add that the few items that you do choose to keep should be kept in attractive storage containers. These storage containers should also be dual-purpose to save space. For example, choose storage bench can can serve also as a chair. Watch out that the hinges don't pinch small fingers! Also make sure the fabric or materials used are child-safe. When you declutter a kids room, look on Pinterest or NotCot for storage ideas. Also ask your mommy and me club or other parents with small children for ideas on decluttering DIY ideas.
