drain must be freezing some where, when water is added it thaws and may cause gurgling,
My heart sank as the last of the water went gurgling down the drain.
A common reason that drains may make a gurgling sound when water is being drained is due to build up along the sides of the pipe which create air pockets. To stop drains from gurgling you can use a safe drain cleaner to remove this residue and create a smoother flowing drainage.
It's not the toilet, there's a blockage in the pipes some where after the drain pipe from the toilet joins up with the drain pipe from the tub. You're going to need to have the pipe snaked.
Would depend on the material the piping is made from

The most nessecary tools needed to fix a clogged sink are a plunger to extract the material clogging the sink and a sewer snake to hook and extract the debris.
Partial blockage. Snake the drain.
When a basin drains and causes gurgling sounds in other basins -- or the toilet, in this case -- it is usually a sign that a vent pipe is clogged or obstructed. The air being displaced in the drain pipe of the bathtub has nowhere to go if the vent is clogged and is being forced up through other drain pipes.
Radio Shack "drain pipe tracer".
She watched the water spiral down the drain. The doctor needs to drain the fluid. The drain is blocked.
There is slight blockage in the pipe probably further down, the pipe needs a good cleaning througout the length of the pipe, preferably with a wire/brush type cleaner, checmical cleaners or drain type cleaners may be too weak to clean it due to the length of the pipe.
