Some people can slip-up in their lives and have an affair, but most people feel guilty about it and sooner or later it's going to cause stress. This person could also just be tired of having an affair and may go onto another one. Don't believe everything you hear. It's time to take those marriage vows seriously and you were both being selfish by cheating on your spouses. Either work on your marriage or get a divorce. Don't tie your spouse up while you cheat because it's pure selfishness. I dont think it was confusion as much as it was guilt and energy drain. You started this relationship on false pretenses anyway, what did you expect to gain out of it aside from the rush of secrecy and something different then what was at home. How can you say you love your spouses if you were cheating on them. Something had to have been lacking in those relationships for the two of you to seek outside entertainment. You must decide if you want to be married or if you want to be with others. You dont know what is was exactly because you both were living a lie. I am not being judgemental just telling you the reality of what its like from looking from the outside. These relationships rarely have long lasting benenfits. Stop staying on the middle of the fence and pick a side.
