Find out the source of food for a more desirable breed of bird and provide plenty of it. It takes time before the new breed will populate your area but in a few months the new birds will make it their territory and the black birds won't come around as often. Make sure you continue to feed the new birds or they will go elsewhere and the black birds will be back.

You will be interested to know that the "Hawk Bird Scarer" which is a simple device was originally invented to scare seagulls and cormorants (shags) off boats, yachts and wharves. So successful, it was quickly tried in many other situations including Pigeons. In most situations these hawks will work provided the Pigeons can see the Hawk profile above them from where they are roosting. Once you set it up will scares the birds instinctively. It works! So no killing, no pesticides, no collateral damage, nothing! It's perfect. Hope this help. Here is the link for more info @hawkbirdscarer.com

I thought that a bird feeder was for birds and as Black Birds are birds why would you want to deter them? Perhaps a little sign saying "No Blacks Allowed?" Similar signs have been used in the past, although most people find them offensive.
