Depends on the laws and regulations where you live- and you did not share that information. In the US, in MOST states there is no requirement or process to "register" and ordinary firearm. When a gun is purchased from a dealer, the dealer maintains a record of the sale at the shop for 20 years, but guns are not IN someone's name.
