HOW TO PREVENT OBESITY

First I'll give you an overview of what foods cause obesity. Second, we can overview the cure and thus know how to prevent obesity. Third, further down this answer, I'll provide some page links that will give you more in depth information, and, in particular, detailed help for people who might already be overweight or obese.

In terms of prevention for those who are not obese, the obvious answer is: correct eating habits [which I shall come to shortly] and regular exercise such as a combination of (cardiovascular) cardio exercise and strength training.

In this answer, however, I'm going to focus mainly on foods for three reasons.

A. Specific foods are the initial or major cause of obesity, and, by that, they provide the cure for obesity and the way to prevent obesity [though exercise certainly helps].

B. Some people are not able-bodied, for medical reasons, or because of age, but they can learn how to prevent obesity through dietary changes only because exercise (though beneficial for overall health in many ways) is very useful but not essential for weight loss.

C. Some people reading this answer may already be obese and unable to exercise comfortably until they have lost some weight through changing the eating habits over-viewed in this answer.

Therefore, in relation to only food,
the major causes of obesity are:

1. Over-consumption of refined processed carbohydrates, which is not only a major cause of weight gain or obesity, but also Heart disease, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, type 2 Diabetes, and many other diet related conditions and diseases.

2. A further cause of obesity is the above reason coupled with failing to consume enough of the 'specific fat burning proteins' to utilize the thermic (fat burning) effect of these particular proteins to change ones metabolism from primarily burning carbohydrates to burning fats. Switching from primarily burning carbohydrates to burning fats reduces fat storage and decreases ones percentage of body fat.

3. A further cause of obesity is an addiction to refined processed carbohydrates (often without being aware of the addiction).

4. A further cause of obesity is insulin resistance (often without being aware of it). Insulin resistance [unless one reverses it, and it can be reversed], makes it very easy to gain weight and very hard to lose weight, despite ones best efforts.

5. Many overweight people, and most people who are obese, have a degree of insulin resistance. Degrees of insulin resistance can range from mild to moderate, and on to type 2 diabetes. The cause of insulin resistance is often an inherited predisposition combined with over-consumption of carbohydrate, even natural carbohydrate, and, of course, the unnatural, refined, processed carbohydrates. The way to reverse insulin resistance is to strictly count carbohydrates and by that lose weight (and exercise if possible).

(However, if you already have type 2 diabetes, please first consult with your own physician before making any dietary or exercise changes.)

6. As indicted earlier, many overweight people (and normal weight people) are addicted to refined processed carbohydrates. This can lead to overeating, or compulsive eating, or strong food cravings, or emotional eating, or comfort eating. When this happens, the person feels out of control [because these foods are deliciously addictive] and this leads to further weight gain and eventually obesity.
