Most of the time, it will be the grey switch of the trunk motor assembly who breaks.
Remove this swith, and put another one. Here's how:
- Remove the panel, inside the trunk, over the hatch, using a small + screwdriver, (there are 6 screws).
- With a 13 mm wrench, remove the motor assembly screws (there are 2).
- (Remove grey switch, if it is the problem)
- Or Change the motor assembly.

If you mean the trunk pull-down motor, order it from the dealer. I ordered one last week (August 2008). The part number is 4378724.

does it happen a few seconds after you start the car? on my 1988 new yorker,it was the hydrolic pump that is on the right side of the trunk. i just unpluged it.

The motors for the convertable top are in the trunk in the very back behind spare tire there is a up motor and a down motor.I believe the driver side motor is the up motor. There is one motor/pump assembly and it is located directly behind the rear passenger seat. It can be accessed by removing the rear seat or by going through the trunk.
Use a dynamat trunk kit.
