Go to dealer, expensive, have to get one through them so key is the same as the original so you don't need two keys, door/ ignition. Tear apart steering column.
how DO YOU REMOVE AN IGNITION CYLINDER FROM A MALIBU CHEVROLET 2000
can I switch ignition cylinder with a different ignition cylinder w/key in a 2004 chevy Malibu without having to use a passcode
The cylinder should not be worn out on a 99 car unless you were using a very heavy key chain. I would just replace the ignition switch if the cylinder works OK. You also might try some Graphite lube on the cylinder.
please give instructions on replacing the ignition switch on my 99 Malibu
needs a ignition cylinder and has to be reprogramed.
This question does not make sense. More information is needed.
You need to take the dash apart to get to it. I had the same problem in my 2000 malibu. Are u having a theft system problem? I was. You need to take the ignition apart too. Your going to need to reprogram the new ignition lock cylinder with your computer. To reprogram just turn the key to the on position (dont start it) let it sit for 10 minutes, repeat this 3 times. It should be programmed now. Now start it.
you are going to have to take the whole key cylinder out.
no
A key will not be released if it is not in the OFF position only. If it is any other position, the key sticks.
Remove the ignition module retaining ring. Pull the ignition barrel out. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the ignition barrel. Reverse the process to install the new ignition module.
When you turn the key to the on position, the theft light should begin to flash. You must leave the key in the on position for approxamately 10 min. This will reprogram the key to the car. When this problem occurs, it is because the lock cylinder (ignition switch) needs to be replaced.
