Very dangerous to mess with airbags. Usually with Mercs the passenger side airbag is only active when the seat is occupied. If your thinking of using a child seat I strongly suggest you contact your local Mercedes dealer for advice.

On newer models, there are pressure sensors in the passenger seat to determine the weight of the passenger, I think the weight trigger is 80 pounds. If weight is under 80 pounds, say for a small child, the airbag will be off. If weight is over, the airbag will be on.
