Pull the ashtray out utill stop. Push the heat shield downward and give a little more pull, the ashtray will pull away from the housing. With flash light look up at the ashtray housing, you should be able to locate 2 Philips screws. Undo these screws and the whole housing will drop, the light bulb bracket located between these two screw holes. Twist the bulb housing, pull the bulb. It takes #74 wedge bulb.

If its the same as the 2001 subaru forester, there are two fuse panel locations: The main one is located on the lower left hand corner of the driver side dashboard where you will see what looks like a pull open ashtray holder. Pull that open and you will see that it is actually a cover for where the fuses are located. The second fuse location is located under the hood next to the battery. There you will see a 4x6 black box that has a cover on it held on by plastic clips or screws (I forget which). Undo the clips/screws and you will see the fuses. Also, be aware of the fact that underneath the cover that you remove are where two replacement fuses are located along with a fuse puller).

This Might sound simple but it's a pig..... Good LUCK. Remove the Ashtray, Remove the 2 screws in the ashtray compartment! Now you need to undo the heater control clips 2 under the drivers side then 1 behind the glovebox.(this took me 2 hours to find!!!!!!!!! Then slide center control unit out. You then have to undo the stereo retaining screws and slide the stero out.... You might have to take the cables off the clock and hazzard lights too. Replace in reverse order and hay presto you are done!!!! Shame I didnt have this info before starting!!!!! Oh well it's done now!!!!!!!!!!!!
