In fact, many major cities in Ireland were founded by the Vikings, such as Dublin, and many other towns and cities especially along the banks of the Shannon (which was very important to the Vikings, as the River Shannon leads straight to the middle of the island). However, just like in every other part of Europe, the Vikings settled down and became "as Irish as the Irish." -Malachy McCout's History of Ireland- Also like in every other part of Europe, they pillaged and destroyed before finally settling down and becoming accustomed to Irish life and culture.
