British troops had better training and more supplies and military equipment. Their officer Corps were professionals and there was a full complement of professional Non Commissioned Officers who were responsible for training and discipline. The Continentals if trained at all were what at best might be called militia men or weekend warriors.

In terms of just pure power, the Americans had significantly less than the British. The British had the most powerful navy in the world and the colonists a had no navy at all. The British were well trained, well equipped, and had more men. The colonial armies often brought their own arms from home, had no funding (until the French allied with revolutionaries), and had significantly less man power (only about a third of the population of the colonies supported the revolution).

It was a better organised force, and its methods of operation were purely British, whereas the Colonial Army was composed of both regular units and militia, didn't have the logstics the British had, and received much of its organisational structure not only from past experience of members who'd served in the British military, but also from French and Prussian advisors, as well as privateers from various parts of Europe.

British troops fought in prescribed battle formation, as opposed to American forces that deployed, at times, irregularly. This I have read.
