These kingdoms were ruled by Greek dynasties following Alexander the Great's conquest of the Persian Empire. Hence the term Hellenistic Sates. The term Hellenistic also refers to ancient Greece's last historical period from Alexander the Great's conquest to Rome's conquest of Greece. The Romans did not patronise Hellenistic art. They adopted it. It became the art of the Romans as well.
