Before the American Civil War, black people were treated entirely unfairly, because they were still slaves. The war was about the argument is slavery good or bad. Slaves were thought to be inferior (not as good) as their white masters. They were made work for nothing and only given small portions of food.

Hope that helps :)

For a long time, of course, black people were treated as property to be owned, exploited for profit, used, or sold.

After the Civil War, there was a very brief time when black people were treated with some respect, some even being elected to congress. But that passed, and they found themselves disenfranchised to a large degree in many places. They were not allowed to participate in much of the activity of government and the economy. They were denied education, jobs, and reasonable social status.

We should remember that the mistreatment of blacks was not universal, and there were always some places where they were accepted into society on an equal (or perhaps more accurately, nearly equal) basis. Most blacks, however, did not experience this.

There are a number of civil wars but I am guessing from the category you put it in that you are talking about the American Civil War. From the American Civil war slaves were freed and black people were treated slightly more like equals. It wasn't until Martin Luther king that Black people were treated entirely like equals.

Why was black soldier paid lesser then white soldier in the civil war?

Back then, black people were looked down on by we Americans, the Civil War was the war on slavery, when black people were treated like things instead of people, and were sold or traded among the people and put to hard work for no money, very little food, and small "homes". Americans probably didn't pay black people more for that reason, because they weren't important back then. Hope that helps
