Conflict erupted between British immigrants and French Canadians.
When Britain took control of all of Canada in 1759-60 the British living in the area were positively affected. The many British, Scottish, Irish living elsewhere in Canada did not have to worry as much about French attacks. Those living in what is today Southern Ontario and Quebec were most positively affected.
Britain imports much of its food and raw material. During WW2, Nazi Germany had a policy of trying to starve Britain into submission. The Americans and Canadians were sending shiploads of supplies to the UK and the Germans were torpedoing those ships laden with supplies. Without control of the Atlantic, the British people would have starved to death.
Most (all?) of the countries or colonies that formed the British Empire (of which Canada was one) did not need to go to war to obtain home rule/ independence. The British Empire was developed from a democratic country and when colonised people became educated enough ask for their own rule, Britain could hardly refuse. Canada was not completely independent from great Britain, but now a central government would run the country. Canadians would elect their own leaders.

There were no Canadian citizens when England won control of North America. Citizenship didn't come for centuries. The colonists were British subjects.
