Not much impact in the 1920's because it was cheaper to travel by rail, there were few road systems that were built ( not until after WW2 were interstate freeways built), and the car ownership was low. It isn't until the 1950's that the real impact of the car was felt. Urbanization began, people moved from city centers to new suburban housing, malls became popular, and more goods were getting shipped by truck than railway. Passenger service was cut back and some lines discontinued ( today you can not go by rail from Northern California to Southern California).
