Actual rust bluing is not a cold process. The solution is applied cold to bare metal, then the part is immersed in boiling water for about 15 minutes until a black 'crust' forms. Then the crust is carded off on a fine wire wheel leaving the rust-blue finish. Takes several applications. If you are referring to the cold-blue kits sold commercially, I dont believe you will like the results. In order to get ANY kind of decent color, the metal must be absolutely clean and oil-free. The best types we've found to use are Oxpho-Blue and Blue Wonder. They give the darkest finish without too much of the rotten-egg smell. repair@countrygunsmith.net
