A Japanese victory at Midway would have lengthened the war but would not have changed the inevitable outcome. Japanese war production--and indeed, the combined industrial output of Japan, Germany, and Italy--was simply no match for that of the United States alone. Additionally, holding Midway would have put an enormous strain on Japan's supply lines and diverted resources needed for their campaigns against China, Australia, and New Guinea.
Battle of Midway
The Japanese were seeking to invade and occupy Midway to protect their homeland from an attack such as that of the Doolittle Raid of April 1942. Instead, in the Battle of Midway, the Japanese lost four aircraft carriers -- the Soryu, the Kaga, Akagi and Hiryu -- while sinking one US carrier, the Yorktown. With this battle the Japanese were so weakened that they spent the rest of the war on defense.
Midway proved decisive to the naval war in the Central Pacific. US carrier forces sank four Japanese carriers, altering the balance of power for the remainder of the war.

Some of the most important battles in the Pacific were the following:Gaudicanal, Saipain, Guam, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. All these were important steps that were taken to launch the assualt on mainland Japan itself. Though all battles had importantese other wise the U.S.A. wouldn't have invaded the enemy held island.

Of course not... nobody wins in war.
The Battle of Midway changed the course of the war in the Pacific because the United States started attacking the Imperial Japanese Navy offensively rather than defensively. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Americans understood the superiority of aircraft carriers. By the end of the Battle of Midway, the Americans mastered the art of the aircraft carrier. In total, 4 Japanese aircraft carriers were sunk during this battle, Soryuu, Hiryuu, Akagi, and Kaga. The aircraft carrier sailed through the Pacific Campaign with glorious victories. It was what made large battleships obsolete, and its superiority is why the Untied States operates 11 aircraft carriers today, with a 12th one being built, more carriers than the entire world combined.
Of course "Midway" (1976) is a flawed movie. It's unsatisfying that the Japanese actors don't speak Japanese and we have to hear Paul Frees dubbing classical Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune.
