How I would design the experiment would begin with gaining a basic understanding of current theory on the mechanism that causes the change.

Then, I would find information on the naturally occurring ranges of deciduous trees and find appropriate observation environments for the test, based on my findings.

winter has the shortest amount of daylight and summer has the greatest amount of daylight./

How do the hours of daylight affect the temperature?

Well if the sun is out for a longer time the temperature will be much greater than when it is not out as long, because the sun is shining for a greater amount of time. It varies though depending on the weather.

What month has most daylight lost?

A month does not lose daylight. The amount of daylight received is dependent on latitude and the time of year.

Why is water a good temperature moderator?

Because water has a very high specific heat and is capable of absorbing a large amount of heat energy without changing temperature.

How long are the days in each hemisphere?

That hemisphere is tilted towards the sun to its greatest amount. It is the summer solstice in that hemisphere. The sun reaches its highest point and you have the most amount of daylight hours. The further from the equator you are, the more hours of daylight there is.That hemisphere is tilted towards the sun to its greatest amount. It is the summer solstice in that hemisphere.
